The power of power naps
Sleep requirements of human beings vary. Apart from the usual 8 hours of sleep at night , some people tend to have a nap in the afternoons. This is sometimes looked at as a luxury especially by people who have to slog in the afternoon and long hours. But what if we understand the concept that the naps actually will give an increased level of productivity and alertness to your work ? Will that change your concept about naps overall?
Power naps can be defined as a short period of nap for around 20 minutes especially during the working day or a break during long driving episodes. This has been known to increase the level of alertness and productivity and concentration at least for a few hours following power naps.
We may be aware already that in hotter countries it may be customary to take some time in the afternoon for rest. A siesta for a few hours, enabling them to work for longer periods in the evening with freshness. Students who have to study for prolonged periods of time can take a small break of 20 minutes to catch a short nap following which their concentration will improve. Sometimes it can be recommended to take a small cup of coffee before the nap. Coffee takes about 20 minutes to act and once the nap is done you will wake up feeling refreshed and alert. It may even be known that some workplaces have sleep pods at the offices for short naps when energy dulls down. So do not underestimate the power of rest and the power of a nap.
